When we look deep inside successful people, organizations, or companies, we can usually find they share many similarities. Not only do they have areas where they struggle continuously, they also have areas where they shine.
Most agencies or organizations have an official "Mission, Vision, and Values" statement. Even the U.S. Military trains it's officers to develop a personal mission and values statement. While most successful individuals do not have these things written down, it's usually clear they hold certain values and a clear mission. It's what drives them and guides their behavior. At Tactical Choice Training we call these things Tactical Traits.
Every agency, organization, and individual is sure to have setbacks. For individuals, we've broken those setbacks into five general areas. Jumping to Conclusions, Blaming Others, Assuming the Worst, Minimizing, and Selfishness. We call these Tactical Traps. If left unchecked, they are quite capable of overshadowing even the best of intentions.
Some think of it as a battle between good and evil. We view it as a battle between Tactical Traits and Tactical Traps.
Relying on the strength of Tactical Traits allow one to minimize the impact of Tactical Traps that often times hold people back.
By identifying values and Tactical Traits and incorporating them into an Internal Tactical Dialogue, one can begin to master successful outcomes.

Every situation or event invokes feelings, involves a thought process, and necessitates action
Each situation invokes feelings such as anger, fear, anxiety, or happiness. Feelings are often times automatic and based on previous experiences. It is imperative to be cognizant of our feelings and impact on behavior.
We all have a constant stream of thoughts rattling around in our heads. It's important to acknowledge that thoughts have a major impact on feelings and behavior.
Behavior is action in response to our thoughts and feelings. Behavior can also impact current and future thoughts and feelings based on a history of successful outcomes or consequences.

When presented with a situation we typically have almost immediate feeling reactions. Joy, happiness, anxiety, fear, and anger are just a few. Those initial feelings immediately set the stage.
There are many different thinking traps. Traps set the stage for negative self talk and open the door for damaging responses to most situations.
Our thoughts can be based on feelings and have a potential to lead us down a negative path if left unchecked. If a person's thought process is guided by values the outcome has a greater potential for success.
We've identified some of the most common values that most people can agree on as being positive. The thinking, or planning process, is where we decide. on a course of action for our behavior.
Our behavior is generally what leads to our rewards or consequences. Whether it's an argument, fight, pleasant conversation, or choosing to face an obstacle head on constructively.
Consequences and rewards are generally tied to the behavior we choose.
ASK YOURSELF
Does this situation scare me? Am I becoming angry? Which Tactical Trap am I experiencing?
Is my initial reaction. to call names? Say something I may regret. Am I being influenced by a Thinking Trap? Is there a value or Tactical Trait I could rely on to help me formulate a better course of action?
What course of action have I chosen. Is it reflective of my Tactical Character Traits? Will it demonstrate my integrity, respect, or kindness?
